Original design for the Flying Rainbow Lasagne kite structure.

The next Flying Rainbow Lasagne is planned to be a kite-like structure which is extremely lightweight, weather resistant, and windworthy.

This is the next step in the evolution of Flying Rainbow Lasagnes.  The most recent Lasagne, and largest to date, is the Outdoor Lasagne, which is currently installed outside of Aurora Studio.  The Outdoor Lasagne rotates beautifully in the wind, however, if it were lighter and built out of different materials it would truly express the full spinning-ness of this shape.

By using materials designed for custom kite building, I plan to create a large Flying Rainbow Lasagne which can be partially disassembled and collapsed for transport.  My goal is to exceed 48 inches in size, which is the largest Flying Rainbow Lasagne to date.

Below you will find pictures of the earliest stages of this project: building a simple small scale wire armature and then covering it with vellum.

This technique explores the most effective way to piece together flat material to create curved shapes over a wire structure.
